get a copy of Bentley manual and follow the procedures, MV is fully covered in that, or download Vanagon Solving Driveability Issues manual off the internet, simple enough generally to diagnose but you need to know what's what especially on a new purchase cause p.o. could well have bodged it to get it running and flogged on

Yup, could be valve clearances/ hydr tappets up swanney? Could be valve burnt, or rings. Unlikely rings at that low pressure so maybe just head/off on as Aidan says, take a quuik looksee

Ok
Took rocker cover off to find adjusting screw off one of the rocker arms just lying in the. Cover and a locking nut half way down another pushrod tube.
Its destroyed end of push rod and the hydraulic valve lifter come out in bits. Next question. Anyone got a hydraulic valve lifter and pushrod for sale. 2.1 mv auto :)
rust of course its got rust :)
