1986 1.9 dg watercooled t25 pushrod replacement

Post by gollfy »

Hello,

I have bit the bullet and ordered myself 8 telescopic push rods with seals to try and resolve my oil leak issue.
I shall be replacing the exhuast at the same time as that has seen better days.

What I am after is:

A rough guide on how they are replaced for my engine

I don't have to remove the heads or engine do I?

Many Thanks for your help
Dave

To start with you'd be wise to buy a Haynes manual

Rocker cap off, rocker shaft assembly off (making carefull notes of order), pushrods can then be withdrawn, tube guards off (while you're doing the exhaust anyway  ) and pushrod tubes then can be squashed and taken out.

And as they say refitting is the reverse etc etc. Never used tele tubes before but as someone said the other day they ain't rocket science.

it would be a whole lot easier with the engine out..
Taking the engine out is easier than what you will eventually do to the tubes, believe it or not :D

cant see why you want to go to all the hassle of taking the engine out to replace push rod tubes with telescopic ones.
my advice..... keep note which push rod belongs where, and take care that they are corectly seated engine end when you put them back......

Golfy - where did you get said push rods...and if you could do some photos that wouuld be wicked. Although not conclusive - there's a good chance that I have a leaky tube or two....so pictures would be good!
