Ticking Over High revs!!! Reasons???

Post by LLOYDIE »

My van's engine ticking over speed has increased for no apparent reason. Any ideas for possible reasons. Accelerator doesnt seem to be stuck and the spring is in good condition and all well WD40ed! Hope someone can help.....petrol consumption is getting worse....if that were possible.

Air leaks in the inlet is sometimes a reason for odd running…

Could do with knowing the engine type though.

Yes, Lloydie, better specify which petrol it is, and if its a DJ or MV 2.1 then it'll be anybody's guess...

Not sure about type other than 2.1 petrol!!! Will try and find out. Where should i start looking. Engines were never my strong point!! When you say air in the inlet...I assume its to do with the carb??

basicly any air that goes in to the engine needs to go through the carb or through the injection metering device so that the correct amount of fuel can be thrown in. if air gets in to the engine with out doing this the engine goes to run lean and a faster idle if often a byproduct of this.

injection systems have added issues with aux air valves ect.

Think the last posting is the possible cause, freezing acc. cable check out relevent thread.2.1 DJ @ MV are injected DG 1.9 has carb.Check the throttle is fully returned engine end,if ok check vacuum hoses if ok likely to be an elecronic problem affecting the cold start system.MV's have loads of electronic gubbins!! I know,I,ve got one !! Good luck
