sorted!
just been out in the cold -
rear fog light now working - (loose connection)
both side lights now working and a change of bulb has sorted one brake light too (now i know where to look)
new brake light bulbs on order from brickwerks -
Image
the bulb i took out -
was working as a side light - but not as a stop/brake light -
Image
just out of curiousity - would a bog standard twin filament 21w/5w brake light bulb work? or does the double contact points at the bottom of the bulb preclude that?
Image
thursday - the reversing lights -
roll on!

If things are improving them you're doing well. It's all an education!

Some vehicles have separate brake and rear sidelights. In this case they will be single filament bulbs with a single contact on the base with the metal sleeve as the ground. (21w brake, 5w sidelight.)

With these vehicles, they are combined in one bulb. The pic you have of the twin filament 21w/5w bulb with the twin contacts on the base is a bog standard brake/sidelight bulb. Available from just about every garage on the planet including Tesco etc! One positive contact for each filament and the sleeve as a common ground.

Mail ordering bulbs is not really necessary for these things but Brickwerks' will be good I expect.

You only need the one offside fog lamp for the MOT so don't bother wit the nearside. As I said before, mine has slightly non-standard ones in this respect.
