what split charge kit?
I'm lookin to get a split charge kit for a second battery, and later possble another for a fridge. i looked on ebay for under 'split charge' and many options came up, but they varied greatly in price and contents. could anybody recommend a suitable safe kit, i was looking to spend arounfd the 20 quid mark- is this enough?
and are they easy to fit?
cheers craig

I have the non-intelligent relay type and it works fine.

Re: what split charge kit?
Theres been some conjecture by other members that a 30amp split charge system isn't quite man enough and I can't argue either for or against - its probably AngeloEVS's area or another resident sparky, but I uprated mine to 40amp with beefy cable to match. However, providing both batteries are in good condition, I'd say a 30amp split charge should be ok. The alternative is you source a higher rated relay and cable and just fit all the terminals yourself. If you look in the WIKI and search for 'split charge', there are links to DIY set ups if you want to make your own up. Essentially its a relay and chunky cable and you may be able to beg, borrow or steal (well, maybe not steal) the bits you need, or just buy that one and see how you go. Fuses are strongly recommended too although I confess my set up doesn't have any.

Re: what split charge kit?
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeek! crappy blue scotch locs, 22amp cable, crimped eyelets and relay that will be on the limit.
Sorry guys, these kits are barely adequate and that is being generous.
Scotch locks are basically a rubbish way of connecting wires, they can be hit n miss at piercing the insulation on the wire and when used to the limit like this (they could be carrying 30 plus amps) they are destined to fail sometime soon and unexpectedly.
Blue scotch locs are rated at 25 amps, they take a wire up to 2.5 mm (1.5 - 2.5mm) standard 2.5mm is just 22 amps.
The yellow fuses are just 20 amps
The relay is going to be working close to it's 30 amps...never a good thing.
Yes it will all work for a time but is barely up to the job...don't waste you time and effort, fit something a little heavier.
Minimum:
40 amp or above relay
4mm wire
Soldered joints (absolutely no scotch locs)
yellow eyelets
30 amp fuse and holder
