Cheers folks. Well chuffed myself.

It's definitely not pump fuel through to the carbs so think gonna try and get pump off and check defo still sucking and blowing. First just gonna check got the pipes on the right way around....

When you take the pump off pull out the push rod that makes it pump and see if the engine cam end is burred (CAUTION VERY SHARP) over .....

Mine had worn down by a lot and gave a very weak pumping action :(

Think the proper length is in the Haynes

Cheers Andy,

I've looked in the Haynes and couldn't find it.

Someone else has told me though that they have a couple of pushrods both measuring 14cm so looks like there is quite a lot of wear on mine! :shock:

Got a replacement coming so hopefully that should solve the issue...

Spec length for fuel pump pushrod is 139.8mm (from VagCat)

Excellent - thanks Neil. That will explain it then - our pushrod is over 5mm too short....
