After all the questions found out I could actually just about get my head under the van to see where the problem was! At least I know what to do when I need to get my van up for the service.

Cheers for all the help, and the laughs! :ok

i love the 2 bits of timber balanced behind the tyres, if it rolled back at all, there is no way they would slide away and let the van kill you eh? :run
if thats a homebrew van its bloody nice!

Have faith, the edge touching the floor has superglue on. Oh, and theres a trolley jack - just for confidence.

why raise the van to drop the oil ?

seriously folks MachineMart 6 tonne axle stands and a highlifting jack, I've never found ramps much cop, you need a wall and big timber to rest them against to drive on to them half the time

I am pleased that the teaching of my supporting technique has entertained, however, I think you have all been a tad harsh.... I fail to see the problem or inadequacy of my method. In fact, I intend to do the same today whilst topping up the waxoil.

ps oh and regards the various bottles of oil..... just some old half empty bottles I found in the shed..... bit of a cocktail swimming around in the engine now but its all the same when it's mixed up.

If you see me and my van at Oswestry then you will know that my bolser wood supports were adequate, If i am not there then you will know that they failed. However, it may be better if I dont attend as my van will clean up in the 'best T25' category..... as long as the judges dont inspecvt the quality of the engine oil

I just dont like the look of axle stands, would ideally like to use something a bit more stable! I like the idea of these:

...but not sure I trust halfords gear...

Only 1000KG per ramp, you will be right on the weight limit there. You need stronger ones in my view

Looks like the "best t25" award went elsewhere, did you make it to Bus Types then?

I see no issue with using wood to support the van,

Personally before I'll work under The Bus I jack it right up with a 3 tonne trolley jack and lower it back down onto concrete building blocks, leaving the jack just on pressure (belt & braces  ) I also chock the front wheels cos we live on a slope.

I know of 2 people who were killed working under 'safe' cars and another who was VERY fortunate ... that was me, as a kid working under the MkI Scirocco replacing a handbrake cable with the car on the standard jack. I'd just got the second wheel stud in as the thread went on the jack dropping the car at a right old speed
