rear seatbelts with homemade r&r bed

Post by gazc »

hi all,

me and the gf have recently got our 1986 t3 'scoobs' :D and loving it, but we have a problem with belts that i cant find any info on :?

its very basic inside, and the previous owner fitted a homemade rock and roll style seat/bed. the base is solid (looks like pine slats), the fold up backrest is about 10mm plywood that folds up and rests against a bit of ply folding up from the bed base and one bit screwed to the ply lining. some screwed in 'stopper' stop it sliding back down and its really solid to sit on.

the problem is there's no seatbelts which is a bit of a pain cos we may want to take people in the back (no doubt in the future little ones will be around too... :shock: ). the question is, is it ok to put belts on this type of seat and will it be legal? a friend has said cars/vans of this age dont need belts? i'm not too fussed about going in the back without a belt if it is legal but friends may not be the same and we'd need it for any future little ones so we would prefer to get some in there for them.

cheers
gaz

It all depends on your van, some have the mountings in from the factory, others need a bit more work. The belts mount to the bodywork not the seat unit so you should be ok. Loads of info in the wiki about this and lots of useful threads too, just search for seat belts. Brickwerks sells good kits.
:ok
What a long strange trip it's been

Welcome in. :ok

Lost of stuff on rear belts on here.

Best place to get started is. https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/In ... t_legality" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

then https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/In ... oint_belts" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have a diy R&R and fitted the kit from http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; without any problems.
