Whilst removing the starter motor on my 1.7d engine i managed to snap off a pipe from something very near the top of the starter motor.
Im not sure what it is, but when it snapped there was a hiss (like leaking air). In the pipe there seems to be a valve and some paper.
Hopefully photos are attached.
Does anyone know what this is ? Im a bit of a plank.

That looks like a brake vacuum pump same happened to mine when changing the engine it will cost you about £60 from gsf.

I don't believe it. £60 for that and £75 for a starter motor.

part is available from vw its about £12, metal plate with the hose attachment.

Part No. 068145111A (3 bolt plate with connector).
£19.83 inc VAT. A lot better than the £60 !!!!
Thats from VW Vindis in Cambridge.
