gear selection front

Hi all, tralled through a few threads on hear about gear selectin. Ive had trouble with mine since the day I bought it.

get a clicking noise when changing gears sometime, particulary between 1st and 2nd. Hard going into reverse sometimes too. I guess very typical symptoms.

So here are a few pics, I wonder if u can see what needs replacing? Should I get the repair kit from brickwerks?

Worth changing if you have got it all exposed you'll be amazed at the difference get the kit from brickwerks

how do u mean, now thats its all exposed, is it normally boxed up?

Seems that the selector pictured on the wiki is from a diesel and this differs from the petrol. So cant compare to see if anything is bent out of position



But on the right hand side of my level there is that exposed coil, doesnt match up with the other side, so could that be a contributor to the problems im experiencing?

had exactly the linkages done by the guy who repaired my bus - see your other post. Cost was about 120 euro. When you change the linkages the bus is like new. It was the most noticeable repair I have done, mine were terrible!

So from looking at mine and the diagram. Do you think they look the same and in good/correct condition?

have you considered/changed the gear oil?
read the article from the wiki on sloppy gear change?

Hi, looking at the pics it would appear part of the spring loaded nylon? guide could be missing , I've have a good look through wiki and its great for those that need it , but thought there could be some more pics to explain more but some might infringe on copyright maybe ,, See what the Moderators might think ,, Hope this may help to explain a bit more ,,

Hi, I noticed that the adjustment measurment looked to point more to the four speed linkage ,,,,I'll be having a good look through wiki and will try and add some more pics in the correct section on this forum ,

as you can see below, the piston rubber must have been broken for years, and the end of the piston has been grinding on the metal side wall

also the 2 plastic bits on the end of the forks, 1 is broken

so the combination of thin side wall and the plastic bit could be causing me the said problems

Ive done a temporay repair on my linkage, gear change was getting very tight and noisy, got front end on ramps and sprayed some white grease on the centre linkage above the petrol tank (you can see how dry the linkage joints are positioning a small mirror on an angle, also see how rusty the top of your tank is) you can get at it with a straw on the end of the can. this was where my problem was. goes in gear lovely now.

anyway, after a clean up and a regreasing, put back together, and seems a little better. Changing from 1st to 2nd not so bad, 5th to 2nd, still dodgy sometimes. But still an improvement

still have a hard time getting 2nd, does it look like the Reverse plate/catch feeder thing is a little bent to you? maybe its getting in the way?
