Hi get on the well known bidding site and perchase a mig welder but get the best you can afford stay clear of hobby ones they have a very short duty cycle and poor wire feeder The best names are miller lincon murex esab and sip You will need a 130 amp min but a 160 amp will bet better running 0.6 mm for body work and 0.8 to 1mm for heavey stuff. Stay cleer of gasles the wire is exspensive and the job will be no way as good You can use c02 pub gas wich will cost you a tenner for a 20k bottle and it will last for miles of welding all you need to do is have a word with friendly landlord no rent on bottles. I have used pub gas for years welding everything from tin can nissans to 42 tone hgv's and of course the few hundred vdubs . Bealeve me if you wish to learn welding you need good kit and you will get a good second hand unit for 200 quid and welding tin cans is a good place to start see if you can make a long pipe welding them end to end practice makes perfect Good luck ps get a auto mask they are cheep as chipps and you will not get arkeye

Thanks for all the advise, much to think about, and yes hands up to the underestimation of prep time. I have a few options now, which I didn't have last week. :D

My suggestion is don't try to recreate the seam as it will just create the water trap all over again. When Chickenkoop welded mine ( https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Ar ... outer_sill ) we decided that it actually looked right without it and by leaving the floor edge out too, theres now an easy path for any moisture in there to run out through holes in inner sill. I gave the inner sill a good clean up prior to fitting the new panel and a coat of hammerite too (not a paint I like to use but ideal in a hidden space like that). Theres a few ways you can tackle the job and you don't have to do it the way we did, but at the time it seemed the most logical and cost-effective approach. We also welded the vertical seams over completely then touched them with a grinder to give the impression of one, thereby stopping any water ingress in the future.

Here it is after welding and a quick run over with Rustoleum. Now it follows the natural line and theres no horizontal seam at all.
