Flywheel needle bearing

removed the flywheel today to replace the crankshaft oil seal, as it came off so did the insides of the needle bearing.

before i start just wondered how they are supposed to be changed?

it is part number 40

any ideas how to remove it? i guess i just give the casing a tug.........just wanted to check before i fooked it up lol

Get the old one out and put the new one in i suggest

If its anything like the spigot bearing for the diesels, then a very sharp smallish chisel is required to get the old one out.

Least its on a bench and not in the van...

Just done mine last week, look in the wiki at spigot bearing replacement. Had to chisel mine out, used a small electrical type screwdriver to bend it inwards then a larger one to wedge it inwards some more then cut through it with a cold chisel. Cleaned up the bore and put new one in, make sure the writing is facing you (IIRC) as it has a seal on it. Took longer to get old one out than it did to put it back together and back in the van.

or fill the hole with grease and push in an input shaft/clutch alignment tool and they can pop out!

That method ^^^^ will only work if the needle rollers are complete, otherwise its time for hammer and chisel.

Hiya Rich old chum, try an M6 rawlbolt case tightened down with a nut on a length of M6 threaded rod and a larger nut or weight as a slide hammer.

As Ian says hydraulicing out the spigot bearing for the first motion shaft with an input shaft or turned blank only works with complete bearings. I am in Hereford?Worcester what is the inner diameter of the bearing? I probably have a either an internal bearing puller or a collet type extractor, either to be used with a slide hammer. PM or ring me if I may be of help.

IIRC the WBX one is 15mm deep x 15mm o.d.

spigot shaft is 14.82mm so 15mm id
