gearbox plugs

Post by Salty »

We are about to attempt removal of gearbox oil. Have already looked on Wiki and are having lots of trouble removing filler plug let alone drainage plug. Any ideas other than plus gas? Also what is a bolt drift??? :? Any ideas where we can order replacement plugs? They are definately going to need replacing once we've got them out.

Any help much appreciated!!!!

Cheers Salty

drain plug is nla, but I have plenty good used ones, ditto filler plugs

plus gas and a big (2 foot) bar ideally 1/2" drive with suitable adapter and 1/8" snap on 17mm plug socket

failing that make a tool with a 20mm M10 bolt and three nuts which will be 17mm you can then use 17mm socket to drive the tool

yes I know access is crap with water pipes but you can undo the chassis jubille clip and move them out of the way a bit, if clip shags then big f o cable tie will do as replacement

I found the M10 bolt wasn't strong enough to undo mine, I cut the end off a 17mm allen key and use a socket and long knuckle bar.

Aidan if the g/box plugs are nla is it worth remanufacturing some? Are they a standard metric thread or something 'odd'?
