Hi folks, yes it's yet another post on a 2e3.
I'm reasonably new to T25's. Me and my girlfriend bought ours in July before setting off on a 2.5 week 2,300 mile jaunt round Europe.
Up to now it's been fine, however, took it out for a quick spin on Saturday and all is not well. After taking bloody ages to fire up it did eventually (I figured it wasn't a huge problem as it's been sat for 4 weeks without being started) and it ran just as it ever has. Managed to do a few miles then just as we were pulling into a supermarket it cut out when I dipped the clutch. It fired up again straight away but needed foot on the revs to keep it running. I figured this was potentially a problem with the choke sticking on when hot possibly?
Went out to it last night though and fired it up. It sat ticking over on the drive for a few minutes quite happily before gently dying. Once again, it would fire up again straight away with a dose of right foot but would then die soon as pedal was released. I'm now thinking maybe blocked idle jets and it was just the auto choke that kept it running at 1st?
Any opinions anybody?
I know I could start off with just trying some carb cleaner down it while I give it some revs but having had a close look it does seem that theres a fair bit of gungy crap here and there. It seems some of it's coming from what I think is the gasket between upper and lower bodies, and there is quite a lot of crap round the back where there are 2 vacuum connections. I've got some photos I'll try to put up later.
Does it sound like it's worth a rebuild?
Should probably mention, it's an '83 1.9 water cooled (DG I think)

try removing part '2' and giving it a good clean.

mine wouldn't idle either before i cleaned it.

Re: Pierburg 2e3 stalling at idle
More likely water/crud in the bottom of the carb float bowl and blocking the idle jet...
First check the fuel filter (near the tank and it wants to be the large type not the poxy small ones GSF only seem able to sell) to see if there is any crud/water in it.. if there is, you could have a leaking fuel filler pipe/rubber/breather/or breather tank connections, that will need sorting before you go driving accross europe..
Then take the top off the carb.. be carefull when seperating the carb top from the body, there is a gasket in there.. (GSF do a 2e3 carb gasket kit for not a lot, worth geting one before you take it apart.) does mean a bit of a dissmantle but the crud will be evident in the bottom of the float bowl.. I use a syringe to suck out the fuel (and put back in the tank) and then suck out the crud with it and mop out with some paper towel..
Well worth a rebuild, follow the procedure in the Haynes, its actually quite good..

Re: Pierburg 2e3 stalling at idle
Hello there - and thanks for the useful information -
I've got down to mateys float on carb - how do i get further!? As in check and clean and clear out? I'm assuming thats the primary and secondary jets on the r/h side - again - how do i get further as in check and clean and clear out?
A beginners step by step answer would be the most useful for me.
Anything else I should be looking at/cleaning while I'm here? - All suggestions gratefully received.

Re: Pierburg 2e3 stalling at idle
I had the same trouble 2 weeks ago,I took the top of the carb off blew out what I could, checked the inline filter by the carb(it was clean),it started up no problem on the auto choke,as soon as it switched the choke off it stopped,I took into work and took the top off the carb again and blew it out with an airline and the jets, refitted everything and it was fine, just some crap somewhere, where about in epping are you?,I'm in harlow

Well as the post is now over two months old with no return reply, I think we can assume it was resolved.
