T25 heating

Cheapest non-EHU method is, in my opinion, to fit an old Carver SB1800 gas heater from a touring caravan - one or two of us have done it and it keeps the van toasty - even in ice & snow! There's a pic in this thread : https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... er#p185945

Mine cost £20 off ebay. Fitting is a little tight under the floor and needs careful planning, but it does work a treat.

If you are going for a fan heater, it's well worth spending a bit more and getting one with a variable thermostat and a cold air setting for the summer. We just bought one from B&Q for £17.95, it's 1500w max, two heat settings and cold setting and a stat/dial. I think you will find anything more powerfull will be too hot.

No need to spend more...Tesco do a value fan heater with fan only, 1KW and 2KW settings with variable thermostat and safety cut off if it gets knocked over it stops all for.................£11.99, i bought one for Cromer and it was blooming marvelous

For your info, I bought a 200 watt ceramic heater from ebay, just to see how good it may be - well its crap, so all of you that told me electrical heating from a battery were correct, thanks for the info - so look on ebay for a 200 watt ceramic heater for sale, but d not go for it, as if you would !

It may just be my hardy Scottish blood, but our 2kw fan heater is just too hot! even on the 1kw setting, i want to turn it off 5 mins after i've closed the door...

we are currently looking for a fan heater with thermostat so we can leave on a lowish heat overnight.

Hello all and please forgive me, my first post woohoo.................and my hubby and I have only just purchased a T25 Reimo high top 1989 in the last few weeks (more of that to come later). We have managed to go out and camp for a weekend and bought a little fan heater from Argos with cut out and frost control. We had hook up, so it was fine so we had a fab snug night. I am confused though (its a woman thang ) can we still use the heater if we wild camp and are using it off the leisure battery?? (I did read somewhere that for example you couldn't plug your laptop in if its off the leisure battery).

you have a 12v battery

your heater needs AC current
your battery supplies DC current

so that's a no

Ah! how about an inverter!
that converts DC to AC, great!
your little battery isn't a hydro electric dam and would very quickly run out.

So to summerise
NO heaters, No hair straighteners, no hair driers will work off a battery even with an inverter.

You can with an inverter, because it's not a heater.

If you want heating for wild camping, the only real options are an eber or a propex, lots of info on here about both..

You could run a fan heater through an inverter off a leisure battery, depending on the power rating of the heater and the inverter. But it's not recommended, your battery would also get drained pretty quickly. It's like a lot of things, just because you can do it doesn't make it a good idea

Laptops can be a problem, I have run mine off a 300w inverter with no problems, but would rather suggest a "proper" regulated DC power supply, designed to plug into a 12v system and deliver the correct power, depending on your laptop - try Maplins, they have quite a few options. By the time you have gone through the inverter, you are wasting power - converting DC to AC for the laptop's power supply to convert it back to DC again.
Don't do as my brother in law did, use a non regulated power supply and melt your laptop

thank you, so I think that makes sense. Be prepared for lots of daft questions, I've enjoyed reading the forums and can't wait for next year to get out and about and we are looking forward to lots of events. (Might even have a hair cut so I don't have to bother with the hair straightens )

When i bought my van the guy gave me a small heater that runs off the gas cans same as the portable hob burners. I've not used it yet, but i was thinking it would work well to just put it on for 5-10 minutes when returning to sleep after a night out. Does anyone have experience off these?

you could put it under the floor as long as it is protected from the elements

that depends on what furniture you have..
remember it's the size of a shoe box.. so, where would you put that?
my propex pulls in cold air from the outside to burn the gas.
But pulls in the air from the van to heat in the exchanger.
So as the temp rises in the van, the heating curve steepens.
then the thermostat clicks it off, so when the temp drops to 5 deg below the set temp it fires up and heats the already warm air in the van...

You can also conside the Truma heaters if your vans got an LPG tank.

Not sure how they compare to other systems but it seems to work well in mine.
