Well for a start it is a converted panelvan (to caravelle) It also looks like its a devon(motor caravan converters) conversion.

Re: E reg vw syncro
Not to dampen your enthusiasm, but going by the pics this doesn't look as if it could be fixed for 1500 quid. The whole right hand side is very crusty and I'd be willing to bet that closer inspection will reveal that the bottom sill including front and rear jacking points is way past it (probably due to constant water ingress from leaking windows). A structurally sound repair to these areas is almost impossible, at least it will take a lot of skill and time = money.
On the upside ...you've got a van with two difflocks. The front gearbox alone (with difflock attached) should recoup 3-4 times the purchase price.
My advice would be to forget about this one, pull it apart and hawk off all the usable bits one by one (including non-rusty sheet metal sections). This would a) give you some more money in the kitty for a better buy next time and b) an insight in all the weak points of these vans and an idea which areas to inspect when inspecting another possible candidate

Looks like it's salvageable and that's a reasonable budget to start with, good luck with it. The more you do yourself the more you'll own it.
As you may have gathered I do gearbox work on these vans so if when you get it rollinbg you find an issue give me a bell. Obviously you will be replacing all the fluids, when you pull the gearbox and front diff drain plugs the build up on the magnets will give a good idea of what's inside.
enjoy
