Correct gearbox oil

Post by windysurfer »

I'm just about to change my gearbox oil to see if it cures a selection problem.

Is 80w90 EP hypoid gear oil API GL-5 the right grade?

cheers

Mmm...
Some GL5 oils can cause problems...

But the Fuchs "gear syn" IIRC from GSF works fine and is what Aidan recomends in his rebiult gearboxes. or if you cant get that a GL4 oil...

Redline... I'd like to remain unconvinced about it as I have seen several boxes fail not long after filling with it... now I fully understand that there may have been a problem before the Redline stuff went in... and there could be a couple of other factors there as well..

I have used Comma SX75w90 in my 2wd for the last 10 years without problem...

Will it be OK to use short term. I just really want to see what come out on the drain plug

Also is there a drawing of a cradle some where in the WIKI to help remove your box on a trolley jack?
