MOT Failure
Got the van back from camper shak last weekend, the interior's full done now. On the way back popped into a friend of mine that lives in Knutsford and he very kindly painted my alloys for me. while the van was up north the MOT ran out, took it into have it done this morning and it failed on a few points.
1. rear tyre below legal depth (Sorted)
2.N/S headlight aim too high (sort that when it gets dark)
3. O/S & N/S indicators have secondary light in them which is not allowed (? it's been through other MOTs and no one's ever said anything. Might just take the side light bulbs out of them)
4. rear fog lights not working ( I've checked the bulbs and they are ok, the switch lights up and the fuse is ok. Fresh out of ideas now.)
Can anyone shed any light on points 3 & 4
andy

If you're better than the leading brand, why aren't you the leading brand?

Correct, sounds like the test guy was having a bad day, often they ignore such additions ... although with the latest reg changes ....

There should only be 1 fog light on the offside. Try cleaning up the earth directly behind the cluster, it sounds like the power's getting to it (you DID click the foglight switch past the 'front fogs' part of the switch didn't you ? It should click twice.

4. Rear fog lights
Mines similar foggies worked on drive, 2 out of 3 times at mot it didn't and the 1 time it did it was because he tapped it.
Clean up all connections and the bulb holder. Clean up bayonet on bulb or replace. Worked for me.

Re: MOT Failure
There's a second fuse for the foglights. You need to take the main fuse board off and it's one of the fuses on top of there. Worth checking.

Re: MOT Failure
cant see why running lights in a indicator lamp should fail mot unless it adversly effects the opperation of the indicator itself.
landrover disco`s come like this from the factory.
you need to look at the testers manual with the tester and if you have a valid argument against his or her discision then they should give the benifit of doubt to you.

Re: MOT Failure
The connections all seem ok and none of the fuses are blown. I tried to see if there was power on the switch, admittedly it lights up when you click it onto the second setting, but that doesn't mean there's power does it?

Re: MOT Failure
Right I've changed the relay and the switch yet still nothing. When everyone says about the earth behind the lights do they mean the earth wires next to the airfilter?
I'm really running out of ideas now and I've only got 3 more days before the free re-test runs out.

Re: MOT Failure
Would be interested to see exactly what it says on your V30 refusal of an MOT test certificate about this one.... Will have a look on the regs this afternoon. Only reason I can think of, is that when the side lamps are on it make the indicators flash too white...el sketcho wrote: 3. Re: MOT Failure
You need to check you are actually getting power to the light cluster... if not need to check from the relay, and to the relay...
clean the contacts on the bulb itself and in the holder.....
