Re: clocks
The MOT man's never queried why our's changed as I replaced the broken clocks that came with the van and then in turn swapped those for a rev counter set.

Re: clocks
There are no issues with changing speedo's if they are broken etc but clearly selling a van with a zero'd speedo just because it's had a new engine doesn't make sense! what about everything else that is worn: gearbox, driveshafts, wheel bearings, clutch, tyres, seats, interior etc etc clearly they aren't new as well.
The real issues arrise when an owner does this and then tries to sell the vehicle on. The vehicle is clearly worth more with the false 'lower recorded mileage' but if the true mileage is NOT declared then the sale becomes a fraudulent one.
New speedo's and used speedo's can be fitted quite legally as long as this is declared when selling on the vehicle and the old owner is not in someway implying the vehicle is worth more because of this lower mileage figure. It has to be said that generally you also require a legitimate reason when changing speedo's, Police don't take kindly to speedo swaps for no reason because of the potential fraud this may imply.

My first one (I say 'My' because who know's how many The Bus had had before

However if anyone asks what mileage the van's done I say 19,000 for the engine, 22,000 for the gearbox and 20 years for much of the body.

so from this then ian can i deduce that you have a spare set of clocks lying around with a trip meter built in?Ian Hulley wrote:Red Westie wrote: Police don't take kindly to speedo swaps for no reason because of the potential fraud this may imply.

My first one (I say 'My' because who know's how many The Bus had had before) had no high beam warning diode and the clock didn't work, the one I swapped it for had even higher mileage on it
then I swapped for one with a rev counter with around a hundred K on it
