Excellent! Will be onto VW pretty quick now.
We did Kes at school and I loved it too. The combination of a rude picture on the front and getting to watch a movie in English was a gauranteed way to catch our interest. The book stood up for itself tho and the gist of the storyline has never been forgotten.
I should watch the movie again sometime too, gotta love those jesus creepers!

You forgot to say the bottom bit on gear stick wiggles the bit going to the back so it so it can wiggle the bit on gearbox a bit so it can move the bits in gearbox making them grind when you change gears.R0B wrote:it connects the bit that is connected to the bit at the bottom of your gear stick that goes to the bit on the side of your gearbox.(sorry about being so technical)![]()
what does it do?
Are you driving a automatic or something these days???

It should be about a 10 to 15 minute job, its mainly one bolt as I remember .................... The van NEEDS to be in neutral AT THE GEARBOX , before you take the old part off that didnt fall off ..................... ALSO, dont forget to well grease the ball end of the new part that you are putting back on, else it will gradually tighten/rust, and not be so easy to change gears.
Have fun....

Technical detail including descriptive words such as wiggle I can understand!lloyd wrote:You forgot to say the bottom bit on gear stick wiggles the bit going to the back so it so it can wiggle the bit on gearbox a bit so it can move the bits in gearbox making them grind when you change gears.R0B wrote:it connects the bit that is connected to the bit at the bottom of your gear stick that goes to the bit on the side of your gearbox.(sorry about being so technical)![]()

Van definatley in neutral at the gearbox. I'll do my best to well grease the ball (snigger, childish but funny!), I'm quite excited at the prospect of improving gear change so easily. Mind you, 15 min job for a more experienced mechanic not a tinkering novice such as me perhaps.....
I'm ordering a new iginition barrel and starter motor bush from GSF, I don't think they do this particular part tho but they're having a look.
Thanks all

Just been out under the van for 10 minutes, and greased ball joint and rod where it passes through rear bush.......... It's like having a new gearbox.......... An' probably saved an onion on the ground!
Thanks for a great tip..

Got the manual, thanks Steve
Am now seriously intimidated as the diagram looks very complicated!
Haven't sourced part yet so plenty of time to read up tho.

Well, the new part arrived today and the bulbous end looks a bit smaller than the old part.
Should I be concerned? It's the VW part number but now I'm worried it's not a VW gearbox is that impossible?
