Allergic to the rain .... ?

Post by Vianda »

Hi guys ... and WHY DO I JUST KNOW that this topic has probably been flogged to death on here already - but please bear with this newbie. 1990 T25 + Rain = Splutter, Cough, Stall. Halfords + Money = Dryfuel = Engine works again .... until the next run in the rain! Question: Am I missing something or is it time for a new petrol tank /or do I relocate to the Sahara? Any/All abuse gratefully accepted.

Hello and welcome. :ok Have you had a look at the condition of the rubber neck and the pipe behind the petrol / diesel cap? The rubber perishes and lets water in. Check fuel filter for water also.

Also.....There's two little plastic tanks tucked up in your wheel well and they connect to your petrol tank via two pipes (each), the pipes are rubber so they perish and split , letting water in too

it's also possible that the breather pipes that run along the top of the fuel tank have rusted though

i've circled around the offending breather pipes in red, they run close to be body of the fuel tank, and as a result road dirt and water settle in there and rust out the breather pipe and the edge of the tank where they meet
it seems to me a common fault, as i've had to replace fuel tanks on both t3's i've owned so far, when i've replaced the tanks i've covered over the breather pipes with seam sealer, then a couple of thick coats of paint, hopefully now it will out last the rest of the van

you'd be wise to take the tank off and clean it out
