Hello - A few weeks ago, en route from Devon back to Hampshire, the red oil light came on. We pulled over within a minute or so, and switched off. The AA towed the van home, and said that the problem would be either - the oil pump not working, a faulty oil pressure sensor, or some third option I can't recall. There was plenty of oil in the engine when it happened.
I rang our regular mechanic who said that the oil pumps never go on T25s, and that it would be something a lot more serious (and expensive - grrrr....). He wants to do oil pressure tests, but I suspect that he was angling to install a new engine - megabucks!
So, can anyone tell me more about the red light coming on, what it might mean, how I can find out if the engine is knackered, and so on?
Also, if it *is* the worst case, and the engine really is knackered, can anyone tell me the best option for repair / replacement? Do I cough up £1,000 or whatever for one of those Vega (?) engines? Who do you recommend to install them on the South coast? Is the Bournemouth mechanic listed on the 80-90 site any good?
So many questions, I know, but I hope members here can advise.
Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Stimpy
