I am not going to turn this into a row and held my tongue at cf for the sake of the whole event. Even when it appeared likely who's vehicle it had gone to.

All of the remaining locker actuator parts were left in a plastic bag in the glovebox and Cate was fully aware of the non-functioning locker when she bought the vehicle.

I still have all the parts and yes, I knew it didn't work. Doesn't mean to say I don't want to get it working now.

Given the age and mileage of the vehicle before the locker is attended to a VC test needs to be completed on it to ascertain whether the VC needs replacing

Hence the spare whole front diff and endless phone calls to find out the history of the VC, and the plan to replace the whole thing, get the seized locker working and get the old VC to syncronutz for replacement.

There was a diff at my parent's farm that was offered to Cate around a year ago and wasn't picked up. My parent's farm is not free long-term storage, which is why the 'spare' diff is now at my house in Bristol, so I could exchange the VC from it.

It was offered to me as an ideal replacement as you, Thomas, advised me that the vc would soon need replacing.
We stripped that syncro at the scrappie in about end May/early June last year, the diff was earmarked for me. In July when the gearbox broke we then talked about changing engine, gearbox and front diff at the same time, which due to constraints, we didn't do the front diff.

If there was issues with the 'storage' at your parents farm why didn't you tell me, you have every chance of contacting me.
You know full well the doka has been non-working since August last year, the front diff was not priority.
The doka is near to getting back on road, so the thoughts of getting the diff sorted came up again.
When I did text you to say I would go out to the farm to collect it, 3 weeks ago I think, you told me that it had gone, no explanation, no apology, no reason, in fact you couldn't even be bothered to answer my last text asking if it was retrievable.

Clive, the doka is not back on the road yet and still has to go through an MOT, so this may be a while off yet so Spike can burn off the oil floating around the engine. But I felt there was no harm in asking for help and maybe planning a few dates.

No.2 is available; weekends would be better for me. Chances of me getting a day off at the mo are remote.

Name a date to suit Cate and yourself and i will work around it.

It would be handy to have clives 'suck tester ' but a quick check would be all the vacuum hoses aren't split, otherwise get some plus gas and a syringe!
Don't trust him Cate!!! I needed hacksaw at Coney farm - and he didn't have one........I was seriously disappointed.......mind you, as was pointed out at the time, WindsurfSam didn't bring a windsurf, and I didn't bring a missus.......

Thank you Mark, and to everyone for their help, as soon as I know when Snowdrop is up and running I will be in touch and we can arrange a date. It'll be good to have a mass diff sortout!
Getting kind of excited about getting it back now. :D

Yes Jen, Bob worries me too, no hacksaw but he does have a syringe full of oil! I never did find out what he was doing with that!

medical syringe with needle full of plus gas gets it right where you need it, at any angle. can also push it through the rubber boot so potetially could free a reluctant diff lock with out any dismantling :) just make sure to put the cap needle when not in use, I'm sure a vein full of oil wouldn't do you any good!

... but you want to get the grit and water out first Cate? Though you won't do any harm, I'm sure... what grease do you use on those?

Well that was a fun afternoon, van up on the ramps,
rear gear links dropped, onion and socket cleaned out totally, (need a new boot for that bit) what a lot of hard nasty gritty stuff in there,
next bit forward undone and cleaned out, dry as a bone in there,
the ball thing is loose on the shaft so either thats worn or the shaft is or both more likely,
stuffed full of molygrease, (oops forgot to wear gloves again)
lovingly reassembled whilst taking pics,
gears checked, van off ramps.

Jobs a goodun. :D

Oh and found the busted earth wire for the horn (thanks HeadleyPete) and sorted that.

What a great afternoon, all this and keeping the neighbours amused by the fact that my face gets dirtier everytime i reappear from under the van.

:D
