If you've got an Aircooled '81, it will be a type 4 motor, the ebay link if for a type 1 engine which I'm sure wont fit. You dont have to take off the heads to do this job on a type 4 engine anyhow. Do a search, theres loads been posted previously.

It is an 81 although is a bastardised CT - now running 1776cc with non standard heads! nowt is ever simple for me! . The whole not removeinig the heads thing is part of th reason I put the link on as those rods came witha tool for compressing and stretching the tubes - seemed a lil dodgy to me but if they work....

Exactly what i think, and I've built many early AC engines. They are hard enough to seal when compressed with heads. Don't see how they could be streched enough to seal after being compressed as much as they would have to be to put into torqued on heads.
Lloyd - I think I'll go for new'un's and new seals then drop the heads! dropping the negine ain that much of a deal for me heck it's been in and out more times than a hockey-cockey song!
