Complete mong/thicko question as I'm useless at wiggly amps and othet leccy things.

I've got a 1990 with a 1.9 engine the dash is standard speedo and analogue clock.

I bought a Sunpro 5" slimline tacho with a remote shift light.

Can someone talk me through wiring it up after mounting it on the dash where the speaker grill is.

Maybe put it in Wiki :)

Hi,
Is there a set of buttons on the clock?
I think that shift light you have to program yourself, to the revs that you want?
The tickover reading you will have to calibrate yourself

Baring in mind I am not sure about the 'sunpro' jobby but I think that there will be a
1/ A live feed from the ignition
2/ A feed from altenator to there clock
3/ A nuetral / earth

If you are a diesel you will need a signal converter (square to sine) if you are a petrol you take a feed off of the altenator

Diesel will have a feed from the alternator, you may need a signal converter.

petrol will have a feed from the coil.

Tony's right, feed if petrol is from th coil, I've only worked on diesels.

Firstly I dont know about a feed behind the dash
Secondly you will need to install one of these if you are diesel

There is a wire running to the dash for engine speed, its used by the DOP buzzer of doom oil presure thing (and revcounter on revcounter dash). Being a late van you'll have DOP so its worth tapping into rather than cutting this feed.

Personly I'd take the feed from the relay bord as it requires no messing with original wires, or even finding them in looms.
  • Function / Relay position 2 / Relay position 4
    Ignition 15 (unfused!) / pin 4 / pin 4
    tacho signal / pin 5 / pin 1
    earth 31 / pin 1 /pin 6
Sould work for petrol and diesel (def diesel), in conjunction with apropreate tacho for your engine type obveously.

For fused 15 surply use G2 or G5 behind the fusebox, use insulated female 6.3mm blade. That'll use fuse 18, brake warning lamp.

At least one the relay positions should be free. Just shove a 6.3mm male blade in the numbered holes for 15 and 31, a 2.8mm male blade for tacho signal.

Just fitted a tachometer in my 1.9l petrol 1990 used the following terminals on the 14 plug to the dash (speedo/ anologue clock)

Pin
1 / Ilumination Cable grey/Blue used for Dash lights to rev counter
2 / main beam
3 / ground cable Brown used as ground to rev counter
4 / -
5 / clock
6 / water temp
7 / fuel guage
8 / ignition Cable Black used as ignition feed to rev counter
9 / tachometer (and DOP if fitted) cable green used as signal to rev counter
10 / indicators
11/ altinator
12/ running oil presure (DOP "buzzer of doom" only)
13/ oil presure (no DOP) or idle oil presure (DOP)
14/ heaterplugs (diesel)


All working only thing is the tacho goes to max rpm when key first turned and then goes to zero, not sure why but reads fine when running.
I fitted one as find it hard when kids are in the back and music is on, it's hard to hear what the engine is doing and always like to run on a Rev counter.

The plug is under the dash pod and connect under the clock side just splited cables into lines with crimping connections.
