Just a two penneth, I have restored many cars of all ages and cuttently have two crewcabs.

I use the sting thing all the time (untill recently) and it does make installing a window very easy.

I have never lost a window on the removal untill I removed my crewcab one. It was going fantastic, 85% out then just fractured due to a tiny delamination on the bottom of the screen. Gutted, Now got a replacement.

Two proposals I would recommend if you have not done this before, phone a professional, it will be cheap and if they break the screen they will have to replace it! Get a new rubber and cut the window out of the old rubber.

Think i must be thick! i still cant really picture where the string goes and how this actually works! Does anyone think they`d be able to knock up a crude diagram? Promise as soon as i see it pictured it`ll all fall into place!

the easiest way of describing it is:-

When you remove the windscreen rubber, it is elipitical in shape with a nutch in the top and bottom. The windscreen fits in the top notch and the bottom notch fits on the bodywork.

The idea behind it is as follows:

You put the seal on the windscreen so it is all around the perimeter, and this leaves the bottom notch empty.

I would recommend a piece of string that starts at the bottom centre, wraps round the seal (pushed into the notch) so that each end of the string will hand out of the notch at the bottom.

Place the windscrewen on the van, resting the bottom notch onto the bodywork so it fits onto th esteel lip. Making sure both ends of the string are passed into the van for access. (you will need two people to do this task.

As you pull the string (any end) towards yourself into the van it will pull out of the seal and as it does this the seal then sits on the other side of the bodywork lip. Basically your gimp on the other side of the glass applies varying amounts of pressure to keep the window in place as you pull the string out ofd the seal and the seal reseats itself inside the van.

It will all fit into place when you start doing it. And when you have the seal removed you will understand all the info given on here.

If you have never done it before, Phone a firend who has!

What I found when my screen popped was becaue it it a large flat screen with not much curve in it (and curves give them more strength and make the more forgiving under flex.
