Difference between 1Y and ADG
It seems that there isn't much differencein torque between my KY 1.7 and the 1.9 ADG motor i just scored. What is the difference between that industrial motor and the 1Y . There really isn't very much info here about the 1Y , it never had any application over here.

1Y is not drive by wire it has a throttle cable.
Main diffrence between a 1Y and an AEF is the AEF has a lucas pump, and the dipstick is at the front of the engine meaning you would have to block it up and drill a new one if you want to check the oil when it's in a T3.
There are probably loads more.
Don't know owt about an ADG

AFAIK...
ADG is an industrial 1Y
ADE is an industrial AAZ
Good crank, pistons and rods not as strong as AAZ ones, but OK for turboing, though AAZ ones can be fitted making it effectively an AAZ, tougher.
It should already have oil jets for piston cooling.
Really needs a better inj pump for tuboing, a Bosch one with proper LDA off a Peugeot 1.9 is best. These have a larger drive taper so the pump drive pulley wheel needs to fit it and be correct too.
Basically a good block with non-turbo pistons and rods. The breather pipework and filetr housing may need changing to fit, as I haven't seen one in the raw as an Industrial engine.

Don't think it gives specs you want.

Cam is almost certainly the same, easy enough to get a cam (I've got a spare somewhere)...
I did sort of answer about the performance, saying the pump is not suitable for a turboed application. It is probably governed to 3,500 rpm, so either have to take the top of pump and put some stronger springs and spacers in there (needs skillz and a gasket and lever arm seal!) or get a pump off a 1Y or AAZ or a Peugeot 1.9 (most Pugs in yards are missing them already!!)
Simon Baxter of Brickwerks or Cj or Russel/Ian at Syncronutz might be able to supply a 1Y or AAZ pump (should be OK, with the LDA unconnected).

Thanks HarryMann.
I have another AAZ apart in the shop so i will compare them. If it's just a question of fueling then there won't be a problem. There is a shop over in the next province which builds super pumps- full fueling and timing till 6500 rpm if needed !. i will get him to build up mine. It'll cost but not much more than than any pump buildup. check out vwdiesel.net
BTW i'm not even going to bother turboing it for now, i just need more power than my 1.7 KY is putting out. Already have a taller R&P and locking diff from Aiden ready to swap over once i get more torque in my kombi.

Oops, didn't notice where you were
A few of us know about VWDiesel and VWGTD forums, very good source of informed debate. A standard pump from a scrapper will probably do, if you want to keep your money for the 'big project' - a proper AAZ with a decent turbo!
