Guess you mean rocker shafts not camshaft? Don't know if that would be feasible. The only ones I have done were on a 1600 AD Aircooled, and that was heads off, reusing old tubes with new seals and no problems at all. WBXs sound as if they would be a pain. Laurie will know.

As far as I can make out, the type 4 Aircooled has larger holes in the heads to allow the tubes to be removed with the head(s) in place, and have a different seal arrangement on the tubes.

The WBXs appear to have reverted to the 1600 Aircooled design where the tubes are trapped between the heads and crankcase and therefore cannot be removed with the head(s) on.
You are suggesting.... (with the heads on)..... destroying the offending tube(s).... and replacing with telescopic(s),...... could work........... and would save work. :D

My leak turns out to be rocker cover gasket!!! Seems the silicone idea has held out. I will be replacing all seals with genuine ones however.

Hopefully have solved the problem, thanks again guys for all of the help.
I've just replaced all of the seals with a set from GSF. Funnily enough these seals were smaller than the original ones sold to me by the VW specialist. I've also replaced the push rod tube that was leaking. Touch wood everything seems fine.

I had to do something about it, yes a little oil leakage is what we expect, but not when it is dripping out fast, hitting the hot exhaust and smoking badly. Bev's parents followed me in it on Saturday and said the smoke was quite bad.

Still if it's sorted then I will be a happy bunny, although cross that I've paid out for a set of seals that are useless

Now to get that front wheel arch/jacking point welded before the MOT.

The best bit of all was hearing that I had it grossly undervalued with A Flux. Now got to get Bev to phone them up and put up the guaranteed value.

Some trader bloke we met at the Rusty Bay meet on Saturday said that we should have it up for at least £4,500 - so guess we had better try. He said we've done well and have improved it nicely, i.e. new larger fridge and new roof canvas, as well as all the other little bits and pieces we have done.

Yes Emma looking forward to VanWest. My parents are even supposed to be coming with us - well they have their tickets anyway. You will have to excuse my mother if she doesn't speak, she can be really strange at times.

As Steve mentioned earlier, we nipped up to the Rusty Bay meet at Toms Field because it's just up the road and she sat there and didn't speak to anyone - not like us!!

Oh and by the way, yes Emily is coming to the Fox and Goosey, she's looking forward to meeting your girls.

We are thinking about trying to get the children off of school early and coming on down (naughty naughty I know). Otherwise we will be there by 5 pm I expect.
