Ticking Sound

Post by rhoop20 »

Hi,

Just wondering sometimes when I start my 1980 Aircooled T25 there is a ticking sound that comes from somewhere over the passengers side that is quite noisy but stops when I put my foot on the accelerator, can anyone tell me what this is and should I be worried about it.

Thanks

Rob.

Can you hear it outside?
Is it rythmical in time with tickover?
Does it stop when it's just above tickover or when your foot is right down?
Does it happen when you're going along in gear with your foot off the gas?

Loose window seals?
Window winder mechanism?
Door seals?
Noisy tappet?

Try turning up the stereo.

No you can't hear it outside,
No it is quick ticking.
It is quite loud as well
It does do it occasionaly when driving, but I never have my foot off of the Gas except when changing gear, I could try this tonight though.

I have heard about the "Buzzer of Doom" and I am concerned that it is that, but I can't seem to find any info on it.

You don't have a buzzer of doom. What you may have is a leak from the windscreen surround which has entered one of your relays and filled it with water. Only one screw holds the relay plate/fuse box in so drop the glovebox lid and take a look/listen

Phew I am glad I don't have a "buzzer of doom" I have been getting a bit paranoid about it, I will have a look this evening for the relay.

But it was when his foot was off the gas he could hear it.
Maybe when his exhaust note was quiet enough he could hear the placards being bashed at grangemouth?
