Have you thought about making one designed to take a bike rack Pete? A bit like http://www.telusplanet.net/public/gary2 ... rebike.htm for example? I'd be mad for one of those.
Perhaps there'd be a way to make it so the fold-down-rack bit off a Paulchen bike rack could be bolted on. The Paulchen racks are quite cheap on german.de now, especially if you don't need the brackets etc..
In the meantime I'll just have to stick to the Paulchen bike rack for my spare AND bikes, and an over reliance on the sliding door
