LPG Fuel Economy vs Petrol

Post by RachelDaisy »

I've checked on the wiki and I must be a bit thick tonight as I don't geddit!

2.0ltr Aircooled CU motor Devon based camper in full trim 17-19mpg (or equivalent 42-47 petrol) link to wiki

Does it mean that if you put a "gallon" of lpg in you would go less than half the distance than you would if you were on petrol?

no, it means half the price, ie 50 miles for the price of 25 on petrol....

actual miles to the gallon are less than 10% different to petrol, mine does exactly the same i think, although i havent run on petrol for more than 2 miles since i converted it....... everytime you put 50quid of petrol in your petrol van, the same amount of miles on lpg will cost you 25 quid......

petrol 107ppl
diesel 114ppl
lpg 55ppl

Our fully loaded 2.1 hightop commuting round here (Peak District) uphill and down dale did 185 miles on 50 litres of lpg last fill-up, costing £25 ..... for your £25 you'd get 5 gallons (?) of fool's gold, giving you 100 miles or there-abouts for the same money.

I can't tell you about the long run economy on the 2.1 yet but the 1.9 did ~205 miles on 50 litres.

Aaaaahhh it all becomes clear. Thanks Ian and Mocki. The 10% difference in consumption is not worth worrying about is it.

The only time I worked out our fuel consumption was after a tune up from Stef at MCR Air Cold. Went to Cornwall and back soon after and got 27mpg (petrol). Not too bad for our CU but obviously 1/2 price fuel is the way to go.

If we can afford it we will book in to Gasure and get gassed. :ok
