Difference between a 1Y and a AEF ?

Post by ringo »

Im on a chilled out hunt for a low mileage 1.9d.

Anyhow, i suspect i will be able to pick up a 1Y at some point, but the chances of getting a low mileage one are getting slimer.

There are a few AEF engines around - and it goes hand in hand that as they are newer they will be lower mileage.

So, whats the difference ? Do i need to mess around with an ECU ? Is it fly by wire? Is it more or less the same?

Thanks

AEF's are not newer than 1Y's. AEF's are the worst of all the 1.9 diesels are are best avoided. Main differences are fuel pump (COMPLETE "pooh"), dipstick on wrong side of block, space saving auxilary w/p, alt etc and still has the downsides of the 1Y and AAZ.

Thanks Andy - i take it off the list then :)

Think i should stick with the 1Y then?

TBH, it suits all my needs at the moment - i just want a spare in the garage.

Yes 1Y or AAZ.

I forgot ABL's are another to avoid (thrashed to death).
