Heater controls and cables - HELP!!!

Post by fairwynds »

Any ideas people?
The hot/cold coltrol cable has broken up by the control, so stuck on hot.
1985 1900 DG model Transporter.
How does the fascia of the controls come off? It appears to be stuck fast on two corners so I cant get at the cable behind. Do I have to remove the whole dash? If so...how? Haynes aint much help though!
Lastly, does anyone have access to the VW part no for a heater control cable (or inner wire).
Thanks so much.

fairwynds,
Wiki (Top of page) under the heading (6.2) Heating says......

Gently pry off heater knobs and fan switch. Very carefully pry off heater facia, two plastic plugs tend to break very easily!! Remove 2 screws behind that hold controls to dash.

I have not done this myself but other folks on here have and should be along to add hints and tips.

Grun, Edoh....
thanku so much, I will read with interest then set about breaking brittle plastic bits! I did manage to wiggle end of cable out of slot so can partially control the heat with pair of pliers!
Thanks again
