Temperature gauge is very temperamental.
Hi All.
Temperature gauge is very temperamental.
Worked for a while, then would drop down for 5 minutes before returning to normal. Now mostly doesn't work but will occasionally flutter up to cold before dropping back down. Have checked wiring both ends seems ok.
Question is........
Sender seems very basic. How common is it to have a sporadic fault? Is that behavior much more likely to be the gauge?

to test the wiring unplug the wire from the sender unit and earth it to either the engine or the chassis, the guage needle should then go hard over to maximum. if it does you know the problem is with the sender.
if it doesn't the wiring or guage is at fault.

LOL - bit different on the Diesel - but obviously on the engine - doh!
Anyway, i was having the same symptoms as you - but that was because i had accidentally pulled off the connector when messing around with the rocker cover! That was an easy fix!
Thanks
Ringo
