HELP - 1.9TDi Mk4 Golf - Running Problems

Post by shaz and dan's van »

My Golf is causing concern, have had it for 4 years & until now it has been absolutely faultless.

The car is a 1999 & has done 95K & the services have been carried out in line with the service manual.

2-3 wks ago it started cutting out when slowing at traffic lights/junctions, it only happened every few days.

Last week it went into the garage on Tuesday & the fault would not reoccur & the computer showed no fault. Problems again on Wednesday so returned to garage again Thurs, still fault would not reoccur & computer still shows no fault.

It was suggested the Fuel Filter was changed & injector fluid added, this was done on Saturday & over the weekend it ran fine.

Tonite, after travelling about 2 miles, it cuts out whilst overtaking on a dual carriageway, pulled over & started again OK, drove 400mtrs, then cuts out again, but this time the oil light is flashing, checked oil, seemed OK & dipstick was not too hot.

Drove home & after engine cooled, checked oil again & level is OK.

Before & after the cutting out episodes it runs absolutly fine, tick over is consistant & oil temp remains at 90 degrees C & engine is strong.

Obviously the oil light flashing is a concern & I am hoping to get it back to the garage tomorrow.

I would appreciate any pointers (good or bad) if anyone is able to assist.

Many thanks

There is a relay with 109 on it, replace this before even looking at anything else.

What can I say, you guys were spot on!!

After a weekend where the car had problems everyday, on the Monday I booked it in to the garage for the Thursday & asked them to replace relay 109.

Needless to say it ran without fault for the rest of the week.

On the Thursday I took it in & in the afternoon they called to say they could not get the fault to reoccur & was I happy to have the car back until the fault reoccurred.

I said no & asked if they had replaced the relay, they said no, but would order one & the car would be ready on the Friday (bloody good job as they gave me a petrol A3 & it was dead thirsty!!)

Collected it on the Friday, that was 2wks ago & the fault has not reoccurred, really happy to say the bill was £28 in total.

Many thanks to you all for you help with this guys.
