Upon closer inspection of the catch tank in question it appears that the two pipes on the tank are inlets, so if i were to plumb it in the way i was thinking (mushroom > tank > turbo inlet) wouldn't this cause the tank to operate incorrectly?
(I assume the tank is separated by a baffle, inlets one side, filter the other?) Wouldn't the fumes vent to the outlet without passing through the catch tank baffle and condensing the oil?
I assume to plumb it in the way i'd like i would need a tank that has an outlet on the other side of the baffle?
Or am i just complicating things?

gonna order one of these
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ALLOY-OIL-CATCH-T ... dZViewItem
and also one of these for me ebersacher
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ALLOY-HEADER-TANK ... dZViewItem
they will change inlets/outlets as needed . catch tank will only have one 'in' and one 'out' (will use me mini filter
)
header tank will get a smaller outlet and the vent moved from side to top. tried ringing today but no answer , wanna see if they will do a deal for one header and two catch tanks ?

cheers for the link Elvis, just bought one, been meaning to fit a catch tank for ages, that's the cheapest I've seen, doesn't need to be anything fancy does it. my set up just had mini filter straight on the mushroom, needless to say the intake manifold is a bit oily!

Why don't any of them talk about the internal baffle or separation arrangements?

because it it just what it says, a catch tank and not part of a breather system. If it was meant to carry any amount of oil then yep, I can see the need for baffles but all that it's doing it catching the vapour, condensiing it and stopping it dripping on the road.

Being a dumbass, and certainly no proffesional mechanic i assumed that the tanks must have a baffle/separator to create said condensation.
Otherwise wouldn't the oil laden air just flow in and straight out again?
I know the tank wont be as hot as the air, therefore forcing condensation but would certainly get hotter and hotter as more air passed through it meaning that there will less and less condensing over time.
But if the tank had a baffle and/or some loose wadding of some kind would this force the air to travel further aiding cooling and more oil get collected by the particles hitting the wadding?
Something like this:

Or would this be called something else?

Making your own catch tank seems to be very common in motorsport. How much trouble you go to really does come down to how much you care about dribbling oil behind you. If you really don't give a flying whatsit you coould just mount the mini filters on the breathers direct, one for the rocker cover and one for the crank case but then you'd get some oil on your own van.
To my mind you dont want to restrict it too much or put something in there that will become restricted over time so baffles yes, wadding no.
I have to say though why pay a fortune for shiney bits when you can do the job with any plastic oil resistant container, i.e free with top up oil.
