i don't know if we'd manage without propex, had it for 3 years now and it's great, though to be fair, i think i'd struggle with out the oven, i've only had that about a year and i thought it was silly when i first got it!
A decent electric heater draws about 1500 watts... That's 128 amps at 12 volt! You can't carry enough battery to run it and your alternator is rated at about 1/2 that with engine running.
Get the picture?
Electric heat is worthless unless you have a mains hookup.
IMHO, get a Propex or Eber now. Get wheel/tires/paint next spring/summer when you don't need heat.

If you are planning on going winter camping without a site with a hook up,a Propex or Eber is the only way to go.
Is this your fist trip to Up-Helly-Aa DDD ?, if so I am sure you will enjoy, it is a fantastic site, but remember, the festval lasts for a straight 24 hrs and those Shetlanders drink for 24 hrs, done it a coulpe of times a few years ago,

As you say they are up all night, Wednesday is a public holiday, as everyone is sleeping the night before off or still drinking.
