reconditioned carb?
hi guys.
i have had my van in for a bit of welding and mot. it is to the point where everything has been sorted except the emmissions are too high to pass, the mechanic has suggested a new carb.. but he has said they are £450 from the main dealer, and i'm not paying that..
is there anywhere that sell recons on a exchange basis? my van is a 1.9 watercooled.
thanks,
matt.

carb problem
I had a similar problem with my emissions.Luckily i managed to adjust the co so the hydrocarbons came down enough to pass.Probably wont manage this feat again next year.Found this guy who can repair them, haven't tried him yet though.Check his website http://www.gasure.co.uk/carbrefurb.htm ,surely if he can do it there must be someone near you who does?If not have a day out and go and see him?

thanks, that would have been perfect, but its 4 hours from me.
if the van manages to pass its retest today, i can make it down to chester to get them done, but if it fails the emision test, then i'm stuck as i wont be able to get it there.
does anyone know of anyone who refurbs carbs closer to kent/london?

It's nothing a great deal of time and money can't fix

Yes the carb is responsible (unless you have low compression) for poor emissions, fresh oil and a blast up the bypass can clear out any crud... make sure its been run a good distance to get it up to temp.. he ought to be able to tweak it down too... My doka sits at 0.6 CO when it went for its test...

thanks for all your replys guys, all very helpful.
i will find out at 2pm today if it has passed at the second try.. if it has, it will still need sorting for next time.
gasure sounds great, but its a bit far for me.
gower and lee in watford still do a postal service and have quoted me £134 excluding vat and postage.
or i can have a go myself.... ?? how easy is it to do DIY? and will it just be a temp fix and need doing properly after another six months?
