Service essentials

Post by sln123 »

Recently made the change from splitty to a watercooled T25 (2.1 petrol), no idea when it was last service so I would like to do a full service on it. Done a search on the Wiki but can't see anything specific. I have got the Haynes manual but would welcome a link to any relevant posts or some tips on brands and quantities for oil, coolant, filters, plugs etc together with any other small items which are worth changing.
Thanks
Steve
ps I have already encountered the buzzer of doom so have just changed both of the oil pressure senser switches

Hi and welcome...

Well, there are a lot of posts in here witht he info.. and I thought there was a bit in WIKI regarding oil etc..

BUT....... here goes... What I use...

Use a "Mann" (OE supplier) or "Bosch" oil filter (GSF do them)

Oil.. (Approx 4.5L required) branded 15w40 mineral SG or SJ rated (DO NOT use an SM rated oil) I have used Castrol GTX 15w50, Total 15w40, VW QUantum 15w40..

Or if its a bit tired and the tappets making a tinkle then 20w50

Bosch or NGK spark plugs

Air filters, dizzy cap and rotor, whatever GSF has...
