engine needs to be on transmission to time, to get the timing mark accurately, so could take out trans and connect, do inj timing then slide in under rear valance as one unit..

Because the flywheel timing pointer is on engine and the reference mark on bellhousing, best way to do it accurately, needs to be TDc to withinh high tolerance, no guessing

New engine has a clutch already fitted (although I am going to replace it with my clutch - 2000 miles old!) I'll try to get old engine to tdc before I take it out with pump still attached.
If you fancy a run out I'd only be too pleased to have visitors on Sunday (all AAZ conversion wizards welcome !)
Gotta drop my lad at cubs but back home at 10.30am .
Hopefully will have the engine out Saturday

Sunday 11 ish should be possible, but will have to consult she who must be disobeyed first...
Not too far down't M3...
mark clutch cover notch and bellhousing pointer (in large hole about 90 degrees round fron cylinder axis) with white paint
wll need that dial gauge and magmount, though will bring my gauge just in case psuhrod is different, mine not be tried yet. AndyS seems to be able to do it without a magmount, clever git...

dial gauge yes, but not checked it will fit in timing plug hole yet, could grind down if not, but no magmount, see above
locking bar and plug yes...
out till tonight now... later
Have you a good range of tools, anything vital missing...
Can bring a farm jack that might help.. decision is whether to fit engine first, or take box and engine out as one and refit as one. Smooth surface helps...
timing can be done in situ, but if box out and fitted first can make it easier (backache job
