Expert Help required please guys...

Post by benross »

Hey,

My friends 2.0 air cooled engine went in his T25 not so long ago.

He was told the engine was of code CJ, so he bought a replacement from big boys toys i think.

Now the engine has been removes its become apparent that its a CT engine code.

What 'bits' are required to allow him to replace the CT with the CJ that he has bought? Or, should it just drop in easily?

I look forward to your help. Cheers everyone,

Ben

Er whats a CJ? a beetle one? if so, its gonna be a pig to fit as the CT (1600 Aircooled) is quite different really.. he may be lucky and all the cooling tin will come off ok and fit the other engine..

Its not going to be easy... it might be better to see if he can sell the engine on and get a 2L CU with all its bits on..

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I was under the impression the CJ was a T2 engine. I saw it on this site:

I am not sure though- I am into the water-cooled really.

Thanks for your help

If the engine which came out of the van is a CT, it's a 1.6litre not a 2 litre. Not sure what a CJ code engine is out of, but a 2litre CU will fit straight in i think.

CJ is a late bay 2.0l Aircooler type 4 motor.

Non of the parts are interchangeable between engines.

A CT engine is a 1.6l Aircooled T3 engine, like a type 1 motor but with a spin on oil filter and hydraulic tappets.

Seems your mate has been misinformed when he bought his van and was under the impression it was a 2.0l when infact it is a 1.6l engine.

The correct engine code for a 2.0l Aricooled engine for a T3 is CU.
