hi all
i have a 2ltr Aircooled bus with leaky pushrod tubes. Can anyone of you guys or gals tell me the difference between the cheap/expensive seals available? also i have read on hear somewhere about using hymolar seal, if this is ok to use were abouts do i need to put it (no rude answer!!) to try and stop 'em leakin. I'm aking cos each time i have changed them within a few hundred miles they start leaking again and the smell in the van is makin mi gip!

Genuine VW seals are the only way to go IMH opinion.
It sounds like you've used JK seals in the past?
Smear the HYlomar around the seals once they are on the tubes, making sure the housings are spotless, use a tight piece of broom shank as a handle and twist the tubes ever so slightly as you push them in.
Make sure the tubes are lined up with the housings at all times during the insertion process.
Take your time and don't be frightened to apply a bit of pressure.
Check the 'O' ring locating surface on the tubes for excessive wear or any imperfections before you start.

Just a thought but you have got the weird shaped springs that hold the tubes in place present and correctly fitted haven't you??


Some engines have had them left out (mine was like this) but VW would not have bothered fitting them if they were unnecessary.
