Rocker gear sprung wire
I have re-built a 2 litre CU coded air cooled engine..got everything back together but i'm lost as to the correct position of the sprung wire that sits along the length of the rocker gear..no matter how i try it doesn't look correct. I have an Autodata manual but the picture isn't much help as it do...

I occasionaly work for a VW dealership and have seen them sold there..they are still avaliable and iirc the price isn't too bad.

I have read most of the comments ..can i add to check for wires behind the panels before you start welding...i have seen so many cars that have had the loom cooked by welding...normally all is well at first but a few weeks/months later at best the electris fail..at worst the car catches fire as the ...

Yep..the other side was almost perfect...one very very small area had a few dimples but nothing more. I will get a picture later when the head is cleaned. Discovered the rear engine mount that sits on top of the engine support bracket has a crack in it...gave it a wobble and it sheared :roll: I have...

I pulled the other side off and it is perfect..no cracks as far as i can see...i have left it soaking overnight so that i can have a better look in the morning. Pistons should be here Moday and the head on Tuesday..that gives me plenty of time to clean everything down and clean the crank case out......

Thanks all..as said this van was bought with a known engine problem..that's why it was cheap :D . I think the idea of a lean mix is correct as i found BOTH carb mixture screws laying in the bottom of the tin-ware..one looked like it had been there some time!.. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3452/336...
