Re: Exhaust for gti engine
As i said to you before mark that one ^^^^^^ is massively different in quality to the one on my engine. The 6 bolt flange is good but the 4 bolt one is a third of that thickness and definately on the wonk. It does seal but i cant say i am overly impressed. BTW i do have an early TD exhaust system ( ...

Re: DG to Agg which diesel engine bars
I thought the bar types were the other way round ???. I have two sets of solid ones here, one set i removed myself from an early 82/83 van and the 90 caravelle i just sold had a rubber bushed set. Would this have not been an upgrade to try and stop vibration ?. Anyhow my agg bolted very easily in on...

Re: Drippy head seals
Yes, i would concurr . The heads leaked on my van when bought it and k-seal did the job for a couple of years. Obviously the gaskets are not getting any better with time and will eventually fail normally because they are rotten. The k-seal 'magic potion' works whilst being held in suspension in the ...

Re: 1.6td won´t start, turns over and coughs out grey sooty smoke
Pull the air intake off, spin it over and give a SMALL squirt of easystart up the intake. If its going to go it'll go
This is what the breakdown services do, just be gentle on the easystart otherwise it will blow the engine apart

Re: JX to AAZ Conversion
Well done ian on a great install and yes i can breath now as obviously the engine didnt exactly have a warranty with it !!. Looks like i will have to find another if i'm going to keep the TD caravelle lurking on the drive

Re: JX to AAZ Conversion
i'm sure Ian will be along later with some good news
but i can tell you the engine came from early (for aaz's) J plate golf so didnt have any of the electric gubbins on the pump the later ones seemed to be blessed

Re: lowering my van
I think 'bad grip performance' just about sums it all up  I am usually one to cut costs at any opportunity but even i read and took notes on this subject. I bought -50mm avo's and a westy 'anti lean' kit from brickwerks and it was money well spent. I bought the springs only as the van already ...

Re: Removing / replacing windscreen
Have to say my experiences are much the same as Bert2's as i replaced my screenrubber due to water getting into the footwells as it had perished quite badly. There was also a very small repair needed to lip on the bodywork which obviously wasnt helping. My wife is now an experienced windscreen fitte...

Re: Merc wheel offset / tyre width
Have wheels and tyres although they are not currently connected  If you stick with commercial tyres rather than underated carlos vandango wide ones because of the stiffer sidewall the steering wont really be affected. The tyres i use are a standard fitment on a T5  i'll pm you my details...

Re: spring assisters ???????????
I fitted a pair of Brickwerks spring assisters when i did the lowering job and it definately cured my 'leaning' . They go between the body and the rubber insulator and fitted very well

Re: Merc wheel offset / tyre width
My Merc Carats are ET35 with a 10mm spacers all round . My tyre size is 205/65/16 which gives a slight oversize against the original 185/14. On a AVO 50mm drop they look like the below. Drop up and have a look. I've also got some 15" mercs ( again i think ET35 ) which you could try against you ...

Re: GTi Exhaust photos attached
You beat me to it   I think andy maybe right with the injection tank though as i thought i had read it had a bigger outlet and combining it with the 2.1inj pump it should be man enough for the job. If and when i do mine this is what i'll use as i have the 1.9wbx inj engine in mine alread...
