Re: New dizzy only starts when key released
Cheers, i will have a look today if the rain stays away. I'm not convinced the timing is perfect as it feels underpowered, I have done it with a strobe etc. I noticed that my extra brown lead doesn't seem to be represented on the drawing of the unit in the Haynes manual, i don't have a stabilising u...

New dizzy only starts when key released
I hope someone can help, I have recently fitted an aftermarket replacement dizzy to replace the previous owners points one from a bay. I had to get a loom for the coil to ignition unit and dizzy plug. The timing seems ok, it runs very smooth, ... when starting it turns over but I have to release the...

Re: ENGINE REVS REALLY HIGH WHEN STARTING
Im also having a few issues, my idle speed has suddenly gone up and doesnt settle. I recently put a new fuel pump on, and a new dizzy. It started after the new pump tho. Bliping the throttle doesnt help, it just stays high. Anyone setting up carbs at this weekends stamford hall event?

Re: Cutting out, stalling, running rough
A further update, today I replaced the air filter (very dirty) and the brake servo pipe purchased from brickwerks as mentioned earlier. Continued improvement, every one of these changes has made things better. I now have it running better than it has for 5 years, but I can't help wanting to go furth...

Re: Cutting out, stalling, running rough
I havent replaced the brake hose yet but replaced all the carb hoses and generally given everything a clean. There was a wire into the rear facing side of the carb which has broken off, so i fixed that, and there was one oily spark plug lead which for now I cleaned (plug engine end perfect though). ...

Re: Cutting out, stalling, running rough
Thanks for the tips. Its got a lot worse today, runs at 50mph + fine, but any other speed just rough, and at idle it just cuts out. Will be fitting new vacuum hoses to carb in the next day or so and have a new brake hose as described above on order. I will post here with my progress and results. Che...

Cutting out, stalling, running rough
Engine not been idling correctly, lumpy, and now it just stalls unless the throttle is half open. The previous owner fitted a vacuum dizzy with points from an old bus, id love to go back to stock and get electronic ignition in there. I fitted one of the hot spark contactless replacement kits last ye...

Re: stuck in gear any ideas what to do
Ok an update on this. I ended up taking it to broad street garage in enderby leicestershire, near my work. I was very worried about how much this would cost, but it turned out to be a linkage on the gear stick. So, 70 quid later i am back on the road and happy as hell. I love my van but a 1k bill wa...

Er, sorry, i should have been clearer, just a misunderstanding. When i said no conclusion or affirmation i meant when the thread originator doesnt come back and say "yes you were right etc". I hate it when some one says "it smells of goats, why", and someone replies "sounds ...

Will update this thread when I find out the damage. I hate it when you read threads with no conclusi...

Noisy and stubborn gear change
I have read all the various threads but wanted to ask regarding my specific problem.. A week or so ago I started my van - normal sounds, dipped the clutch pedal and noticed that it sounded a little rougher, off the clutch - normal, down again rougher, not terrible, but a little noisier. Anyway, now ...
