Re: New dizzy only starts when key released
Don,t realy know if this applies but.............on starting because the starter drops the battery voltage you have a 9v coil so on starting the coil has what is left in the battery ( 9V ?) When you release the key a resistor is bought in line dropping the voltage to 9 V when the engine runs. So yes...

Re: oil on tailgate
Had the same thing and because of poor crankcase breathing it was pushing out the dipstick. Now the breathing problem is resolved I have added a little helper spring clip to hold the dipstick in.

Diesel "Expansion" tank ?
Getting the van ready for the long summer ahead of us I found under the floor beneath the drivers seat a tank which for some reason I have never noticed before (bit embarrased about it actually). It is next to the fuel filling pipe. All the rubber hoses had perished and not being able to operate on ...

Re: 1.6d to 1y the definitive guide
Definitely worth doing. Went up a small local hill that I used to struggle up in second in third, amazing. I gave the newer engine a good degrease as I hate working on a dirty engine with the chance of shyte dropping into something that I forgot to plug. One wire is a spare that I used whilst trial...

Re: 1.6d to 1y the definitive guide
Must say when I did mine I found that without the original "snorkel" that lives in the corner post it was very noisy BUT I think this gives a bit of restriction to the airflow ? Probably better without it but noisier ? Perhaps you have the answer O B G with the K N set up.

Re: 1y engine transplant - surplus wires
Hello, you only need the black wire that operates the fuel solenoid when you turn the key. You might then need to prime your pump to get it away. All the other wires out of the pump are not used on this "simple setup" as they were for the ECU that you do not have. Shout again good or bad n...

Re: Big Daves 1.7ky-1Y Motor Conversion Thread!
Thats a bit odd mate. With your ignition switch in the off position does the fuel solenoid still click when you touch the wire onto it ? I think it must do OR the solenoid is not closing...........wrong wire or faulty solenoid OR I suppose it could be a faulty ignition switch.

Re: 1.6d to 1y the definitive guide
OBG..don,t know what happened there, I replied but it didn,t post. Anyway the ammount of travel on the pump coldstart lever is about 30mm but to be honest the pump I have might not be the actual pump off my donor engine as they were delivered seperately. I had to make a bracket to accept the cable a...

Re: 1.6d to 1y the definitive guide
Yes, do you know what........bit of a silver haired confession.........I had the van for a few months during which time I thought the cold start lever was something to do with the cab ventilation !!! Seriously though the cold start did work on the old KY but had little or no effect on the 1Y. Never ...

Re: 1.6d to 1y the definitive guide
When I did mine, like most "old boy" fitters I read the manual afterwards ! With one or two exceptions where (Weldore and Ringo) helped me out. Think we have to be a bit carefull here though as all the imput so far has come from folks who know which end of a spanner to use and the novices ...
