oil on tailgate
Hi the last couple of times we have been away in the van I have noticed that there is oil spots over the tailgate. I have recently had a new turbo and stainless steel exhaust fitted but have not got round to putting the engine pan on yet. Has anyone got any ideas as to why I have the oil on the tailbate?
THanks

Re: oil on tailgate
I get that so I got the engine steam cleaned and I think it's coming from the oil filler pipe (1.9 DG)

Is it worse when you are using motorway or A roads Donnie and do you have any oil leaking underneath the van when it is stationary after a run - if so, how much and where?

Re: oil on tailgate
Congratulations on your oil leak. You just need to see where its coming from now. I had one from from the rocker cover gasket, and now that's fixed I have another but cannot locate it.
Good luck - the steam cleaning will help

Re: oil on tailgate
Oil on the tailgate is my 1.9DG's way of telling me that the oil pressure switch has gone again! (at least it is cheap and easy to replace!)

Probably not a bad thing Donnie as it sounds like you can rule out the crankshaft oil seal at least. My tailgate was covered after upon driving it home after collecting it and was dripping oil when I pulled over & stopped (which then eased up). Was the crankshaft seal that had gone and the leak was throwing oil everywhere!
Sounds like it could be something that the other chaps have suggested.

dipstick tube, many possible winners !! if you havnt got access to a steam cleaner then some engine degreaser from Halfords etc then hose off, works well.

Had the same thing and because of poor crankcase breathing it was pushing out the dipstick. Now the breathing problem is resolved I have added a little helper spring clip to hold the dipstick in.
