Definitely 3.5l with filter. Just done mine and it took it to 3/4 to top oil marker. You door need to make sure it's on the flat as it will read well out on a slope.

Re: push rod tube seals where from?
Justkampers do them and I guess vw heritage as well. They supply a lot of parts for vw so I got some from kampers. Seem to be ok to me.

push rod removal tip (well it worked for me!)
When changing the tubes on my cu (type4) engine I found they'd been bodged and put in with sealant. I could twist them but not pull/push them out. What I did was wrap a piece of para cord around the tube and pass it up over the heat exchanger. Then using the bar from my jack I wrapped the other end ...

Re: 2.0 air cooled white smoke and strong petrol smell
Thanks, I'll get searching then!
I'm going to get a set of chocks so I can level the van to keep an eye on the oil level.
Thinking ill do a thermostat controlled oil cooler at the same time as I'm dropping the oil and under there anyway!!!
Once again thanks for the advice!

Re: 2.0 air cooled white smoke and strong petrol smell
Well it now appears I have fuel In the oil. Could worn carbs leak fuel into open valves if its parked nose down? I thinl its more likely nose up? I suspect its fuel pump diaphragm can't think of any other way for it to?? ....oh well at least I'm going to get to know the motor well! If anyone has any...

Re: 2.0 air cooled white smoke and strong petrol smell
Thanks for that. Really appreciate the help! It was really wedged into the actual body of the carb. One I popped it down it all seemed to react the same as the other side. I will def get it apart now I've got the rebuild kit. I think the auto choke may have stuck on though as there was a lot of blue...

Dip stick oil temp gauge
Hi all,
My van is a 2.0 Aircooled. It had an oil temp dip stick fitted but I can't seem to find one to replace it. All the ones on just kampers seem to say not for cu engine? Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks guys!

Re: Any Any tips for removing small bits of rust with Dremel
I've used the little sanding cylinders before on bike bits, all I'd say is go easy. They may be small but they can remove material pretty well if you don't take care!

Re: 2.0 air cooled white smoke and strong petrol smell
Cheers. I know gaskets won't sort the problem, I just wanted them before I took things apart! I've done bike carbs before. However I got a chance to leave work early today and......took the airbox off to find the left ( as you look at it from rear) carb butterfly well and truly wedged solid shut! It...

Re: 2.0 air cooled white smoke and strong petrol smell
It felt slick if that makes sense. More than just water but I Guess it could be water and vapour petrol that's maybe condensed in cold exhaust? It's entirely possible it was mainly water! I'm going to check the airbox for water as we've had high winds and rain here lately. I was tempted to leave it ...

Re: 2.0 air cooled white smoke and strong petrol smell
There was petrol being blown out the exhaust which is why I suspected the plug not working. It's def not got any diesel in it. I did think bad petrol but now I'm suspecting a carb problem. I guess I'll wait for the gasket kit then get the carbs apart and look for a stuck needle or wear I guess could...

Re: 2.0 air cooled white smoke and strong petrol smell
Forgot to add the engine was rebuilt by l.pettit around 1500miles ago. I've also has another look and seem to have some leakage around the carb base.it seems oily thick one one side and petrolly on the back side? I'm not sure what any of that means! I have ordered a gasket set anyway. Just annoying ...
