Re: Propex gas fittings.
I think Propex say to plumb it in with copper pipe from bottle to heater with a cut off valve in there. The fitting out of the heater, the brass elbow, goes into the heater with gas ptfe tape on it and the compression joint fixes the copper pipe with an olive. I plumbed mine in connecting the copper...

Re: Holding Down a Starter Battery
Thanks OBG. The captive nut's there, I just need the bit of angled metal then. Oh, and the bolt . Cheers.

Holding Down a Starter Battery
I've never had a battery strap on the starter battery since I've owned my van- it's held in the engine bay with a bungy cord which works well enough but I'd really like to put a proper fixing strap on it. I've got a 1.6 n/a diesel- it's an 85. Anyone got a picture of what the thing looks like- or ca...

Re: 1.6d (NA) Cracked Sump Pan (CS)
Nice one. That's really conclusive.
I've had the sump off and soaked in degreaser. I appreciate that getting the crud out of the crack it's going to be the challenge to make sure it seals up. I was thinking about just gunking it up and tapping a new drain hole in.

1.6d (NA) Cracked Sump Pan (CS)
My sump's cracked. I can't find a replacement- I'll keep on looking but in the meantime: My question is... What's the best solution to fixing it? Would it be gum it up with something- liquid metal or some such thing, would epoxy cement work? Weld or patch it- is it even weldable? It's cracked across...

And, just to pipe up with my usual bit of advice- don't forget your vapour barrier!

Not surprising electricity was having a job getting through by the looks of that. Glad to hear you're all sorted .

Re: Early and late tailgate
I've recently noticed the gap at the top of my tail gate is quite wide too.The van had a different one fitted when I bought it (there was bits of the old paint still visible). Wondered if it was the right sort that he'd put on but the gaps looks fine elsewhere generally and it keeps the water out so...

Re: Horn won't work
Mine was a dodgy earth at the horn itself. A little scrub up and a bit of Vaseline and the job was a good'n.

Re: Can not start van 1.6 td
Give the starter motor a persuasive knock with a hammer. It might need a little encouragement to remember what it's meant to do after being left for a while. I appreciate that you say the battery is good but have you stuck some jump leads on to give it a boost and a bit more gumph? It might be an am...

Battery Drain 1.6d '85
There's been a parasitic drain on my starter battery since I got the van 2 years ago. I finally got around to checking it out and followed the instructions on the Wiki but used an amp meter instead of a bulb. It read 0.2 amps which then progressively dropped to 0.17 over about 10 mins whilst I took ...

Re: Awning instructions
Is there nowhere you can pitch up to have a practice? Local park? Playing field? Rugby club? Until you get everything out and have a go I'm at a bit of a loss to help any further. I'm just hoping that the emphasis is on the "Easy"part of the name.
