Re: Intermittent Metallic sound when driving.
Few months ago took the wife's T4 to the garage for service and MOT before going off on holiday. On the way to the garage developed an awful clonking noise, on cornering, braking, accelerating (well not much on accelerating, it is an aged AAB - we call it the new van - 1993 - says it all!) After muc...

Re: Has anyone come across this
Seem to remember coming across spout pointing in wrong direction this some years ago. Turned out I had unknowingly bought and fitted an early tank to my late cooling system van. Early version is VW part No. 025 121 403A Late version is VW part No. 025 121 403B Early version fitted fine, except for s...

Re: DG with constant, stubborn hesitation
Recently fitted a new (second hand) engine, and changed all the usual stuff including the fuel pump pushrod. All seemed good, except for the van being a bit unenthusiastic when under pressure at low revs. Decided it felt fuelish, and wondered if pump was not pushing enough through at low revs. Think...

Re: Engine died T25 1990 petrol water-cooled
Had something similar. Fitted a second hand engine recently and just couldn’t get it to fire. Started checking connections and eventually worked around to the electronics. Input voltage between ECU input and earth was ok, but voltages at coil and dizzy were a bit low. Penny finally dropped that all ...

Re: Spade Connector
Don't know what it's for, but I do know my dg has been running with nothing connected to it for at least 10 years! Would have responded sooner but I thought somebody much better informed than I am would have answered. Perhaps it's a left over from an alternative use of that model dizzy? Good luck Ma...

Re: Repair pinhole in headlight ?
When my wife got her T4 in 2000 it came with a full depth chip and crack in the front nearside headlight. As a temporary measure I sealed the chip with a blob of glue gun hot glue. That held it until the crack got worse and I was forced to change the headlight unit. That was end of summer last year ...

Re: 1.9 water-cooled engine removal hints
Typing that lot gave me an excuse to sit down and have several item 51s without being glowered at by the “Boss” for not getting on with putting the bl***y thing back together again.
Oh – and loosing the tatty and very grubby bits of paper the list is on!
Know what I’m doing this weekend!

Re: 1.9 water-cooled engine removal hints
Took an engine out of mine last weekend, and was pretty extreme in taking things off as there is another engine going in. Before starting I labelled as many connections as I could either with tape or tippex and took lots of photos. Made notes as I went ‘cause I don’t do this very often these days an...

Re: Older and newer DG engine compatability
Thanks guys
Info pretty much as I thought.
Panic over anyway - engine I'm sourcing is now confirmed as late with the same plastic thermostat housing as on the engine in my van.
Thanks for your response.

Older and newer DG engine compatability
Hi Guys Sorry to bother you with something that is probably in the Wiki, but a little pressed for time this morning. Looking to source a replacement dg engine for my van. Current engine is later dg, but if I source an earlier one with the early exhaust and metal, rear of engine thermostat housing, i...

Re: Solex carb repair 2.0l 1980 Aircooled petrol CU
Hi There About 20 years ago I had a CU. One day on the way home from work the van developed a distinct (and new) tinkling sound. I listened to it for just a few ten’s of seconds, and it stopped, but the van began to run poorly. I stopped to investigate, but by the time I’d got the bed out and the ha...

Check before buying anything if it's on the nearside. I had an oil leak recently that turned out to be at the oil pressure switch.

Re: Bleeding Rear Brakes
I seem to remember the bleed screw always being right next to the brake pipe on the back of the wheel cylinder. They do have a tendency to rust solid and sheer off flush with the cylinder if they are attacked too vigorously. Perhaps a previous owner has been there and walked away from it. If looked ...

Re: Holdsworth Villa Pop-top clip replacement - rivets
Hi guys One of the wonderful things about this forum is that as soon as you think of a question someone else asks it! Now I also have a Holdsworth pop top with somewhat rusty clips and was wondering if there was a strengthening plate behind them. I’ve had a bit of a poke around today and find that t...

Re: 240v hook-up and charge controller
Thanks for that. You're right of course - when moving around regularly it probably wouldn't be needed, but the T25 is a bit of a project, and as it's too high for the garage, the enthusiasm over winter is a bit low, so it can be parked up for some time. I've been caught by leaving the manual zig on ...
